NEW MATERIAL - APRIL 20, 2020

We talked this year about leadership and handling adversity.  What advice would you give to the 2020 senior class on using adversity to help them become successful?

Activity: The Cost of Missing Class.

What does it cost, in real money, to miss a class at college?  Does this make you think differently about skipping? This lesson is intended to help you understand the importance of going to class.

Directions:

Pick the college of your choice and find the following:

Add up the cost of going to college for an entire term:

  1. Tuition for one semester.

  2. The total estimated cost of all the gas you will use to get to and from class for the term.

  3. Books and supplies.

  4. A computer you may have bought.

  5. Child care or any other expenses related to your going to school.

  6. Put down everything you can think of.

Divide that grand total by the number of hours you are in school (number of weeks class is in session [14] multiplied by the number of hours you are scheduled to be in class). For example, if you are taking two 3-hour classes for a 16-week semester, the number you will divide your grand total by 96 (= 6 hours x 16 weeks).

Completing this exercise will show you how much money each class session costs you—and the cost of missing class!
