MY HISTORY

Welcome to Mrs. Dreibelbis' s (Ms.D) history and philosophy section of the website.  I will be teaching Healthful Living this year for Freshmen Academy Team 2 as well as serving as Team Lead. I will also  teach a freshmen elective course Fitness for Life.  I am entering my fourth year at Jordan High School but have over 20 years experience in the education field serving as a head girls' basketball coach, athletic director, assistant principal, and assistant executive director with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.  I attended and played collegiate basketball at McNeese State University for one year and the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for three years.  I was starting guard at both institutions setting numerous conference and NCAA records in 3-point shooting.  I received my B.S. in Health and Physical Education from ULL and returned to McNeese to earn my M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision. I have recently been awarded my CAA ( Certified Athletic Administrator) certification through the NIAAA.

I began my coaching career with Arkansas State University women's  basketball program where I served as graduate assistant for one year.  I then returned to the high school where I had completed my student teaching and became the head girls's basketball coach.  I left there to pursue administrative duties at another high school and upon leaving there became the first female hired on an administrative level with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.  I have been both blessed and honored throughout my career having been inducted into the Louisiana High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame (coach) and the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame ( administrator) as well we being recognized as a Distinguished Service Award recipient, the highest honor bestowed by the LHSAA.  It was while working for the LHSAA that I met my husband. Our marriage lead me to to North Carolina where I served as an assistant principal at a private school before accepting the position to teach at Jordan High School.  In addition to teaching Healthful Living and Fitness for Life, I serve on the SAC Committee and Care Committee

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my adorable lab mix, HoopsterGirl,  traveling both domestic and internationally, reading, cooking, hiking, attending shows at the DPAC, watching and attending sporting events, and exercising.

MY PHILOSOPHY

I am an ultimate believer that staying active is an integral part of a healthy body, mind, and spirit.  Having played sports since a very young age, I have made it a priority to stay active.  My belief is  that Health Education enhances a student's ability to prevent injury, disease, and illness.  It also incorporates lifelong skills that whereby students can remain active well into their adult lives.  I believe that all students have different interests and my goal is to find out what those interests are whether they be in health or physical activity.  We will be learning/discussing various health topics this year such as fitness and  nutrition, how to properly handle stress, the effects of performance enhancing drugs, organ donations, building positive relationships, as well as human sexuality.  I believe it is important for students to learn how to work in groups and appropriately engage in sensitive conversations.  It is my hope that, above all else,  students develop and increase leadership skills, character, and a respect for themselves and other as well as living out Jordan High's  SOAR expectations on a daily basis.  I think it is important that we are all lifelong learners and because of this, I continue to further my education through professional development sessions and workshops.  I am constantly seeking new information to share with my students to enhance the learning experience in all classes.
